What if mental health isn't just in your head?

About this speaker
Ruth Etches is a Cornwall-based Functional Medicine and Nutritional Therapy practitioner challenging the idea that mental health exists purely in the head. She is the founder and Clinical Director of Re:Health Clinic, an integrative practice supporting adults and children in the UK and internationally who have fallen through the cracks of conventional healthcare.
With advanced training in Integrative and Nutritional Psychiatry, Ruth’s work asks a different question: not what diagnosis fits these symptoms, but what is driving the brain’s distress in the first place? Her approach explores how metabolic dysfunction, inflammation, gut health, nutrients, genetics, hormones and mitochondrial dysfunction shape mental wellbeing and emotional resilience.
Mental health is still largely approached through a narrow lens, with symptoms treated in isolation from the body that houses the brain. In her clinical work, Ruth sees the consequences of overlooking the biological stressors that influence long-term mental wellbeing and believes this model is incomplete.
Ruth holds a Fellowship in Integrative Psychiatry and has trained with leading international clinicians in functional and metabolic approaches to mental health, neurodegeneration and complex illness. Through her work, she advocates for a new mental health paradigm - one that reconnects mind and body, prioritises root causes over symptom management, and offers a more compassionate, empowered, and hopeful way forward.
